Edmonton Oilers Battle Back to Tie Series

Connor McDavid's Four-Point Night Powers Oilers Past Panthers

The Edmonton Oilers kept their hopes alive in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 6 at Rogers Place on Tuesday night. Connor McDavid led the charge for the Oilers, recording four points (one goal, three assists) to propel his team to victory.

With the win, the Oilers tied the series at 3-3, forcing a decisive Game 7 in Florida on Thursday night. Edmonton will be looking to capture its first Stanley Cup since 1990, while the Panthers will be aiming to clinch their first championship in franchise history.

The Oilers were dominant from the opening puck drop, scoring two goals in the first period and never looking back. McDavid opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 4:26 into the game, and Evan Bouchard added to the lead with a goal at 16:33. The Oilers extended their lead to 3-0 in the second period on a goal by Zach Hyman, and McDavid added his second goal of the game in the third period to make it 4-0.

The Panthers finally got on the board with a power-play goal by Aleksander Barkov at 14:43 of the third period, but McDavid assisted Leon Draisaitl for an empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining to seal the 5-1 victory.

Mike Smith made 29 saves in goal for the Oilers, while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots for the Panthers. The Oilers will now travel to Florida for Game 7 on Thursday night, where they will face a Panthers team looking to close out the series on home ice.
